Kanji handwriting recognization software?

Postby HavocS » Thu 12.22.2005 6:08 am

Hi!

Is there any program that can recognize a hand(mouse)written kanji and tell me what it is? It's good if it can identify one kanji at once (so no long sentences etc. needed). I see lot of kanjis but since I don't know the radicals yet it's pretty hard to look up them in the dictionary :(
Thanks in advance!

since you don't know the radicals or the stroke order a recognition program isn't going to do you any good. (at least any of the free ones). they work by stroke position and order so if you don't write the kanji correctly in the first place they don't recognize it.

it's easier to count the number of strokes and lookup by that, and/or learn a few radicals.

I know of one that changes normal latin text to hiragana, then converts to kanji. Its got a dictionary by radicals, bushu, pronunciation, and english meaning. I don't remember where it is. Google it as "jwpce". Its free btw.

EDIT: now that I look at it, it also has bushu stroke, four corners, hadamitsky/spahn, reading, and index lookup.

yes, the windows IME is great! I actually get better recognition with Japanese than English. Still though, stroke order is important.
