Help with IME?

Postby Kanina » Tue 02.07.2006 3:24 am

Not sure if this is supposed to go here, but I figured this subforum applied most to the topic...

I've managed to get it working over the internet browser, but is there any hope of getting it working on the Word Processor? I'm running on Windows ME, and any instructions I find are always for 2000 or XP, and nothing is similar in ME..

Has anyone gotten it working in Word on Windows ME before?

Thanks in advance,
-Kanina

Hmm... well, I happen to use XP myself, but I never did anything special to get it the IME to work in Word. I simply turned the keyboard on Japanese and began typing in Word.

I do find that sometimes it takes a try or two before Word recognizes that you're writing in Japanese, so sometimes if it's having issues I turn on Japanese, then English, then Japanese again and it seems to work fine with me.

I think maybe if you play with it a bit, you'd probably be able to get it to work in your Word too.

Hope this helps. ^^

There's two different things going on here. One is setting up your browser to be able to read japanese encoding, the other is to set up the IME for writing in Japanese in windows.

This link should help you out. If your Word is not from MSOffice 2000 or later, you're out of luck according to the site.

EDIT: Fixed the link

There's a checkbox somewhere in the languages setup for setting up all windows programs to use IME.

I used to have ME and I didn't have any problems. But I do believe you have to do download the East Asian languages file from microsoft.com. If you have outlook it'sthe best way to update office. Otherwise you have to search the microsoft site.
