View topic - How to type....

I wanted to type in Japanese on the forums (for practice), but can't figure out how. Can someone help me? Also, can you type the kanji or just the kana? arigatou.

Hmm... I tried following the instructions but they didn't work. I guess I'll stick to copying and pasting for now if I can, till I can fix the problem....

On my Dell laptop this is what I did: in the Start Menu go to All Programs, click Microsoft Office Tools, Microsoft Office XP, Language Settings, Enabled Languages (tab), select Japanese from the list on the left, then click "Add" and click "OK" or "enable". You should now have a language bar which offers you Japanese as an option. When you click on Japanese you will see several options including "Input Mode" which gives you several Kana options (just type in Romaji and it will convert it for you). or "IME pad" which gives you strokes, radicals etc for the Kanji (which I haven't had time to learn yet!). I tried that, and I managed to get up to selecting Japanese from the list. When I said "show language bar on desktop," I can't find a way to change the language to Japanese....
