Trial (line 1-4)

Postby coco » Wed 03.08.2006 8:45 am

This thread is related with History/Literaturethread.

It is a trial for reading Japanese novels.
we know
1)your Japanese literacy ≠ knowledge of literature
2)your Japanese literacy ≠ teaching ability

For the beginner, grouping by Japanese level may diminish your interests of reading J novels. I think grouping by cultural preference might be better.

This is a trial to read one book with someone who have different cultures, different careers. I hope you enjoy reading.

Let's start!

I uploaded a sentence.

edit : remove member list , Traial is done.
If you 'd like to know what we tried to learn on this thread, wrap-up thread will be your help .

That, and just generally help each other out with words/grammar points that seem to be giving people a hard time.

Can I post my rough translation first?

The me who was running north on the expressway, stopped by the service area because of the sudden urge to go to the toilet

I covered my translation in white in case others still haven't had the chance to translate yet.:D
Please correct me if the translation is way different from the intended meaning.

Edit; Corrected silly translation mistake, is translation correction allowed?

I like the idea of translating in white. Let's do that from now on. So, B group and C group please post your answers, and then we can start discussion. (I beleive is how it works. I'm still not 100 percent sure. *grin* )

I'm not 100% sure either, but I think that the C group first discuss the translation amongst themselves (I don't know whether you want to do the discussion in white too or wait for everyone to post and then discuss). Then the C group invites B into the discussion. Then B submits C's and B's official translations to A when ready, and A joins...

To get the white box, use quote tags. To get the text in white, use color tags. It would look something like this: {quote}{color=white}This text is in white in a white box{/color}{/quote} except all the {}s would be []s instead, like this:
This text is in white in a white box

メチャさん。おちゃめ^^

えっと。すみません。私の英語力に大きな問題があるので^^;

Sachi(EST) → 未投稿 ルールについて誰か説明してあげてください。
(Sachiさんは意欲が高いので、なるべく参加していただきたいというのが私の気持ちです)→投稿済
BlackRider(CST) →未投稿 (アクセス頻度がわかりませんが、新しいスレッドができてからもログインしています) →投稿済
Shirley Sia(GMT+8)→投稿済
Kanadajin(?) →?
Mechakucha(GMT+8) →投稿済
Tanuki (GMT-4) →未稿済 (この方もアクセス頻度は高いと思います) →投稿済
Zengargoyle (PST?) →投稿済
(敬称略)
全員参加を待つよりも、期限重視で行きましょう。
Cのメンバーは、まず期限を決めてください。
(そうでないとBとAに迷惑がかかります)
また、代侮メの必要性についても話し合ってください

If there is plural member in your group, please discuss how long dose your group need to translate one sentence.

I think that the C group first discuss the translation amongst themselves

おっしゃるように、私も、最初はCメンバー同士がそれぞれの案について話し合うのがよいと思っていました。けれど、時差やアクセス頻度から考えると、Cの段階でそれをやると、相当時間がかかってしまいそうですので、話し合いはBが加わってからの方がよさそうですね^^

追記:richさん。ルールを訳して下さってありがとうございます。
すごく速くてビックリしました^^

1) It is hoped that all participants contribute at least one translation.
2)Cの各メンバーが翻訳を終えたところで、(あるいは、期日を区切って)Cの代浮ェBに参加を呼びかける。

2) When all members of group C have given their translations, (or, possibly, after a fixed time has elapse), a representative of group C asks group B to participate.
3)BがCとともに、翻訳案について検討する。その上で、CとBは翻訳2案を作る。その2案が準備できた時点でBの代侮メがAの参加を呼びかける。

3) Group B examines group C's draft translation. In addition, groups B and C prepare a second draft translation. When this second translation is complete, a representative of group B asks for group A to participate
4)Aは(B+C)が作成した2案について、正しい理解ができているか確認し、間違いがあれば指摘するとともに、自らの翻訳案も示す。参加者の全員が文章を理解できるまで教える。

4) Group A makes any corrections needed to the second draft translation prepared by groups B and C, pointing out any mistakes, and gives their personal translations. They instruct until all participants can understand the sentence.
5)グループAの代浮ヘ、次の文章の送信を(cocoに)促す。

5) A representative of group A asks Coco-san to send the next sentence.

いちばん心配したのは、メンバーCの参加頻度でした。

My main worry was the frequency of participation of members of group C.
人によって、サイトにアクセスする頻度が違いますし、参加意欲も異なるので、「どの時点でBの参加を促すか」という判断が難しいわけです。

Frequency of accessing the site and willingness to participate vary from person to person, and it is difficult to judge when to ask for the participation of group B.
そのため、Cには代侮メが必要だと判断しました。

For this reason, group C needs to choose a representative.
B、Aのメンバーは自分たちで効率のよいルールをつくることができるメンバーだと思っておりますので、細かい指示は必要ないと判断しています。

Because I think that groups A and B are able to efficiently set their own rules, detailed rules for them are not necessary in my judgement.
現在までのところ…

Presently:
Sachi(?) → 未投稿 ルールについて誰か説明してあげてください。

Sachi: has not yet participated. Can someone please explain the rules?
(Sachiさんは意欲が高いので、なるべく参加していただきたいというのが私の気持ちです)

(Because Sachi-san had a great desire, he said he wanted to participate as much as possible, I had thought.)
BlackRider(CST) →未投稿 (アクセス頻度がわかりませんが、新しいスレッドができてからもログインしています)

BlackRider: has not yet participated. (I don't know how often he has access, but he has logged in since the new thread started.)
Shirley Sia(GMT+8) →投稿済

Shirley Sia: contributed
Kanadajin(?) →?

Kanadajin: has questions
Mechakucha(GMT+8) →投稿済

Mechakucha: contributed
Tanuki (GMT-4) →未投稿 (この方は一日に一度はアクセスしていると思います)

Tanuki: has not yet participated (I think he only has access once a day.)
Zengargoyle (PST?) →投稿済

Zengargoyle: contributed
(敬称略)

(Honorifics omitted(?))
全員参加を待つよりも、期限重視で行きましょう。

While waiting for everyone to participate, let's go to the important terms(?)
Cのメンバーは、まず期限を決めてください。

First of all, members of group C, please set a time period.
(そうでないとBとAに迷惑がかかります)

(So as not to leave groups B and A hanging.)
また、代侮メの必要性についても話し合ってください。

Also, please discuss among yourselves the necessity of choosing a representative.
If there is plural member in your group, please discuss how long dose your group need to translate one sentence.

I also initially thought that the members of group C should discuss each draft among themselves. However, considering time differences and access frequency, during C stage, after it seems that a suitable period of time has passed, it would be good if group B joins the discussion.
----------------
Well, that's most of Coco-san's last message, reiterating (and revising somewhat) the rules. Group A can jump in if I made any gross errors in the translation.

Sorry I'm late, but yesterday I read this thread too quickly and I thought we weren't supposed to participate yet (I thought it was only a "trial", you know ;)).

Are we supposed to give a rather literal translation or a full translation into normal English (or as normal as possible, for us who aren't native English speakers)?

Anyway, I understand: Because I, who was running direction north on the highway, became wanting to go to the toilette, I stopped by the service area.

OK, I know "became wanting" is not good English, that's why I was asking...
