survey on how much manga otakus collect

hi,

How much manga on average does each otaku collect? im a big fan of anime, and i have about 30-40 manga books, 7 mags, 6 how to draw books, and 7 dvds.

Does... anyone realize that in Japanese being an otaku is a bad thing? Has that word been adopted into English as a good thing by anime fans? I'm just curious, because I really don't know.

That basicly sums up the life of an otoku. well they have many many many friends. they just happen to be the only ones that can see their friends.

With all my otokuness i have one dvd and thats mononoke hime.

Well.... I have about 10 mangas, 30 or so DVDs... maybe about 6 mags.

I wouldn't call myself オタク.

My live action movie collection is much bigger.

I've got about 60 mangas, several issues of Shonen Jump, and about half of the FMA season. Not to mention, I enjoy a few animes almost to the point of a moderate obsession, but I'd never consider myself an otaku. xD I can hardly ever remember the names of the characters in most of them.

Just because you enjoy anime and manga doesn't make one an otaku. I read just as much American Lit. as I do Japanese, as well as English, French, etc. Wherever it comes from.

I'm with kanadajin on that one...hmmm....maybe the word is you're looking for is "ridiculous"

I think the word Otaku has come to mean an anime/manga fan here in the U.S.
and by that meaning I'd call myself one but one the other definition that akumu and sachi gave I'd say no I'm not...

In any case I don't have any manga except for a shonen sunday that my ex-band director gave me when he came back from visiting his son in Japan. I do however have several Anime series
1) Berserk (AWESOME ANIME you have to see it to believe it!)
2) Blue Gender (If you like starship troopers, anime, and mechs)
3) Cowboy Bebop (Like the Fonz-cool, movie is not that great just another episode really)
4) Evangelion (complete with strangely addictive opening song-Cruel Angel Thesis)
5) Samurai X OVA (I highly reccomend)
6) Rurouni Kenshin (didn't like as much after I saw the OVA)

i have like 60 mangas and manga magazines together and like 40 disks of anime stuff... i really wouldn't consider myself an otaku. i have a life and do things that are not related to anime and manga... like i play tennis... and do... other stuff.
