How do you type in Hiragana and katakana?
I've seen lots of people typing in hiragana, katakana and kanji and would like to know how so I can do it as well. Do you have to download something and if yes, is it free? Thanks.

(I assume your running Windows)
Have you already downloaded Global IME from Microsoft's website? Try to do that first. Then your able to write Japanese with every MS Office program (word, excel, powerpoint etc.)
I use JWPce myself (because the people in Microsoft have decided that it's impossible that someone has combination Windows XP and Office 2003...:@ So no use of IME to me.) Other good wordprocessor is Wakan.

Really? I have both and I can type fine... But maybe that's why I've been having some issues with Office. I can still use it, there are just these weird issues...Milmi wrote:

I tried to dowload it but everytime i try to open it it makes me re-install it and then doesnt let me run it. Did anyone else have this problem or is it just me?

What's "it"? The Windows 98 IME? It isn't something you run, per se, it's a background driver. JWPce? It doesn't make a Start Menu item for itself (especially if you got the zip file version) when you install it; you'll have to do that for yourself.Ruizu wrote:

If you have Windows XP just go to the FAC on this main page and there you will find a link for Software and computers. It explains how to install the asian font.
With XP all the languages are in your operating system all you need to do is activate them.
After you activate it you will have a little icon on your task bar that you need to click to change from English to Japanese.
When you type the phonetic mora ( syllables) it will show up as kana.
I Hit the enter key after each character for it to remain in kana .
If I want it to show as kanji then I hit the space bar.
If anyone has a better way please feel free to correct me.
If you have XP don't go to the Microsoft site and download IME. It is not needed and will make a mess of things.

Only one thing to say, read the FAQ..I've seen lots of people typing in hiragana, katakana and kanji and would like to know how so I can do it as well. Do you have to download something and if yes, is it free? Thanks.

maybe something like a "Must read FAQ" would be good. when someone is going to sign up to the page, before he/she can proceed, the faq is shown (in a huge font, flashing and with a voice shouting at you) "Want to know how to type in hiragana/katakana/kanji? KLICK HERE"
and then one can complete the register form and sign up.
and then one can complete the register form and sign up.
