download NJStar, a cool little Japanese work processor (it's free and small, njstar.com) It has a dictionary and kanji lookup, and when you move your mouse over a word it translates it Very useful.
Look at the IME Bar. There's a button "Kana" in the bottom-right corner, right? Press it and now you should be able to write as you would write roumaji (i.e. you write "ho" and ほ comes out).
I am able to write hiragana, katakana and kanji on my computer, but how do I know what I'm writing?
Because when I type 'ho' I get this: くら, which is 'kura'...
Sounds sort of like you have a Japanese keyboard installed, instead of the IME. When you click on the Keyboard on the language bar, what is checked? I have Japanese Input System (MS-IME 2002)
