I don't think it's wrong to say deshite. Like it's not wrong to say 'suki' tho' it's often pronounced as s'ki.

this is really late because i've been very busy but i can finally get back to studying. on the test, lesson 4, where it says to translate the sentences into japanese i was wonder if it #1 would be writen like this:
1:山田さんは ひしょ
is that right?

if the lessons taught kanji, yes, that would be right. but the lessons are geared towards beginners, so all answers are given in kana.

no um, i originily had it in hiragana but i think the language pack automaticlly put it in kanji. thanks for the answer and another question, what i posted was yamada~san secretary but would it have been ok to put desu at the end? or did the "ha" take care of that?
