confused about a word

Post by Schattenjedi » Wed 04.06.2005 8:25 am

Here is an excerpt from a story:

七夕の夜におりひめとひこぼしは会います。二人の願いはかなうのです。

Can someone tell me what the function of の is at the end of the second sentence? I included the first sentence because I suspect it could have something to do with it. おりひめ and ひこぼし are just two names. 七夕 is a holiday. Thanks in advance.

Nevermind, I found the answer myself. In case anyone is interested, のです is the common way to write んです which shows that the sentence is an explanation.
