and 容貌上のコンプレックス (an inferiority complex over his appearance? How does 上 fit in?)

my translation: 「上の」is not used for anything (like) this purpose
am I close?
also if I had been patient and read a couple more posts I would have seen that Mukadesan had spotted the 気の枝 typo way before me... thank you all for being so encouraging!!!

I think it's closer to "「上の」 is not always used like this"

RE: Reading Club
One thing I was thinking was to use the chat to have big weekly meetups to discuss progress -- or even maybe, if you can, create a permanent Book Club room in the chat, where we can go every day to have smaller daily discussions. Because everybody's all around the world, I wouldn't make this the focus, but more of a good addition to it.
Sounds like a good idea.
I think I should create a whole forum devoted to this. That way, each thread can be about a different aspect (translation, problem passages, overall meaning and individual questions). We have a lot of forums right now, but I will put this at the bottom of the list to keep it a little neater.
If that sounds alright with everyone, we can start discussing there.

RE: Reading Club
Take a look at the bottom of the forums page. There is a whole section for the reading club and a starter forum there too!
If just about everyone has the book, let's get started. We can also discuss using Chat or an Email list as well.

Clay-san, I'm afraid most moderators of 夜のくもざる(exception: Rich-san, AJBryant-san) forums don't know even what is a 夜のくもざる. or even if they know what is 夜のくもざる, they don't seem to like participation to Reading Club, so far.
If I am wrong, I say my apology.

RE: Reading Club
I haven't had time to start doing the reading (a combination of a rush translation project and Holy Week have kept me from fun reading stuff.
I figured I'd start up when a new story thread was started... but should I go through the current thread?
