Btw... If you google.com search "Japanese penpals" you will find there are quite a few sites that are specifically designed for finding you that japanese speaking friend. I did this when i was 15, though most of my pals have moved on.

I will check to see if the few I found the most productive are still around and will post the Addy's in a bit.

You should be able to type Japanese characters using Global IME, exactly the same way as you would in any other program.
