Could someone please help me translate this?

Postby Reggie » Mon 04.18.2005 4:16 pm

こんにちは。
今日、学校で英語の先生に日本語に直してもらって、あなたの送ってくれたメールを読みました。
ところで、あなたは、どこに住んでいるのですか?
そこは今何時ですか?
ちなみに日本は今、6時だよ☆
またメールちょうだいね!
読めなかったら言ってね。

I think I get what it's saying for most of the email, but I'm just not sure about some of the other parts. I don't completely understand it, but I think it's saying that her English teacher read my letter in Japanese...or something. Then I think she's asking me where I live. After that, I think she's asking me what time it is over here now and that it is 6 O'clock over in Japan. I'm not so sure about the next line, but I think it's saying she will email me later? I just don't understand the last line at all though. If anyone could please translate this for me, it would be very helpful! Thanks in advance for anyone willing to help.

Reggie

こんにちは。
konnichiwa. (easy enough)
今日、学校で英語の先生に日本語に直してもらって、あなたの送ってくれたメールを読みました。
today, school in english's teacher in japanese in fixed, your sent mail to read. This is kind of confusing to me, I think it means "Today at school, my teacher translated (the word 直してもらって - to fix-up literally) your english into Japanese." Don't quote me on that, some discreet parts I haven't grasped yet.
ところで、あなたは、どこに住んでいるのですか?
About your place, where do you live? (or just where do you live)
そこは今何時ですか?
What time is it there? (lit that (place), current time is?)
ちなみに日本は今、6時だよ☆
Here in Japan, it's 6!
またメールちょうだいね!
Your mail is long! (the choudai is the kanji for 長大, which means long-big, or great length).
読めなかったら言ってね。
The last part is about reading and speaking, but I don't quite grasp the endings on 読めなかった.

So, bascially you translated it dead on. GJ!

またメールちょうだいね!

Actually, in this context ちょうだい is a way of saying "please give me." So she's saying "Please give me (send me) an email again!"

読めなかったら言ってね。

The ーたら Form is used to indicate "if," so here よめなかったら is "if you can't read (it)." All together, it says "if you can't read it, (please) say (so)."

not to nitpick, but would that be yomunakattara - yomu + nakatta + ra, and the nakkata would be cannont?

if that's teh case it would be "if you couldn't read it." It doesn't change the context any, but I just don't want to confuse our friend here!

Actually, Mukade-sensei already had it. It's "yomenakattara".

読む --> 読める then the る is dropped as it is converted to the negative by attaching ない then further converted to the conditional by changing ない into なかったら. The whole thing, 読めなかったら, would mean "If you are unable to read (it)..."
