Kanji question

Postby Diggity » Mon 04.18.2005 9:28 pm

I am up to about 29 kanji that I know. However 13 of them are the kanji for 1-10, 100, 1000, and 10000.

How often are these kanji used in japanese writing? I pretty much see arabic numerals most places.

Hi
i can't call myself experienced, but I can tell you that you should learn
all the kanji for numbers. Sometimes you will see the kanji for like 10000 in some expession or something. Like "banzai". I guess by the time you hit the 100 or 200 mark in kanji you'll remember the kanji numbers anyway

Well, I already know these kanji...

I am just wondering how often that a number is written in kanji?

The kanji for the numbers are used (at the very least) on every ATM interface I've ever used.

-----

In general, the number kanji are used in banking a lot. They are also used as the page numbers in most novels. You'll also see them on currency.

Other than that, Arabic numerals are used for just about everything else.

But you'll see the number kanji pop up in places here and there all the time, so it's not like they are fading out of use or anything.

Generally, I think if the numerals are only 2 digits, they use the arabic. But hyaku, sen, man, etc. are always written in kanji.
