Historically-based Movies
I've been watching too much in the way of Japanese horror lately. Would like to expand into other genres as much as possible.
Right now, what I would like to expand into are some movies with as much of historical accuracy as possible for a movie. Fiction or non-fiction. Just something that might get me to learn something on Japan's history and be entertained at the same time. So, other than such standards as Seven Samurai, what would you reccomend?
Region Codes aren't a problem, but I would like to have English subtitles as my Japanese isn't yet good enough for an entire movie...

I cant think of any films off of the top of my head now, but I can think of PS2 games that have aroused my interest and has led me into further reading and also are just fantastic games anyway!
Onimusha 1, 2, blade warriors, 3 and 4 (although onimusha 1 and 2 are the best!)
Genji

Please feel free to correct my Japanese! :D
Thank you!

I just started watching the NHK Taiga series "Shinsengumi". So far it's been very entertaining.

nothing wrong with the last samurai if you like action.. if you want historical, it certainly lacks something.... authentic.... but then again, sometimes, even an unbelievable story is compelling to watch

I agree, it's quite a good film for action and I quite like it. But historicly it...well sucks lol.
