Postby billy-jay » Sun 07.02.2006 8:04 am

Okay, I'm trying to get the hang of inputting Japanese with Windoze. I guess that worked out okay, but apparently I managed to deselect the first and last sentences before it tried to convert anything to kanji. So... how was the Japanese?

Windoze

Man, I haven:t heard that word be used since 1990.
Crazy flashbacks.

So the English is suspect. How's the Japanese?

I guess から連絡が in place of the second bit.

You need to work on the subtle use of the space and return keys.

This is how I'd type the first sentence.

kinou[space][return]banndo[space][return]no[return]renshuu[space][return]he[return]
ikimasita[space][return].

Now if anything that's over-doing it but I like to have close control over my text as I'm typing it.

I think that was me being ワープロ馬鹿。 I meant to say that practice was actually at the studio in Akihabara. So I believe I should have written で練習が instead.

The first bit you highlighted I was going for last night. Was 昨日の晩 a good choice? Or would 昨晩 or 昨夜 have been better?

I think I'm getting the hang of it.

Thanks for your reply, Paul. You're one of the guys that I've noticed is highly helpful around here.

Ah. I thought you'd typed the first half of 'band' twice. :-P

昨日の晩 isn't that bad but 昨晩 is probably better.

Hmm, I think that's a bit confusingly phrased.

Well I'm not sure the meaning is exactly as you intended but maybe something like that.

Yeah, well, my 日本語 does suck. :p

That's pretty much it. I'm not quite ready to start dropping 〜なかればならない, but I'll get there.

Thanks again.

would be better, I think.

as "I was late." ?

*昨日の晩/昨日の夜 are also okay. :)

cocoさん、 I'm not sure what you mean here. Is that supposed to be が?

as "I was late." ?

That one, I think.^^

Not that one. You live in Tokyo, right? Ochanomizu and Akihabara are right next to each other. I guess you know that.

*昨日の晩/昨日の夜 are also okay. :)

Nope, か. Don't ask me to explain the difference.

You mean

Is that because it's a difficult concept or a ridiculously easy one? I've looked on this site and Tae Kim's and don't see anything about か except as a question marker. If it's pretty advanced, I think we'll just let that one go.

You mean

Ah. It's one of those.

Thanks again, Paul.

It's because I'm not 100% sure myself.

I could take a stab at it, might well be right, but I don't want to go teaching people incorrect stuff so I'd rather leave it for somebody else.

As you know, I'm afraid that I can not explain about this topic in English.
I hope someone else will explain you. ;)

Ochanomizu and Akihabara are right next to each other. I guess you know that.

yes, I know.
But in this context, おそかった is not clear. So I guessed it might be とおかった. (guessed...Since you had brought a heavy base guitar, you "felt" it was far.) :p
