あかさたなはまやらわん
あかさたなはまやらわん
As many of you know, Japanese dictionaries are divided into sections by "alphabet". Words beginning with あいうえお are in the あ section, かきくけこ in the か section, etc. When Japanese children, and foreigners learning Japanese, begin to learn to use the dictionary, they learn to say 「あかさたなはまやらわん」in order to quickly locate the right section. I learned to say it with a little rhythm, something like 「あぁかさぁたなぁ はぁまやぁらわぁ ん」. I'm sure there are other ways as well.
Coco suggested that it might be easier for people to memorize this if it were set to a simple, well known tune. Along the lines of the alphabet song, or "do, re, mi". I think that is an excellent idea.
I propose we have a little friendly contest to come up with the best 「あかさ。。。」song. It might even make it into the regular lessons on this site. Who knows?
Give it some thought, and share your ideas. You might revolutionize the way Japanese dictionaries are used.

This sounds like a great idea:).
Perhaps after the song has been selected we could get Clay to make a wave file in the event some don't know the melody. Various countires have different children's songs.

RE: あかさたなはまやらわん
I had some kid in my first grade Japanese class say to the teacher
"don't the first 5 lines of Japanese spell out Red Satan?"
あかさたな。。。
It always stuck with me for some reason.

I don't remember where I got this one:
Kana

Of course, you have to remember the "vowels" before the K.

You know you've been hanging around a forum too long when people start quoting you and agreeing

RE: あかさたなはまやらわん
たとえば…
『ABCの歌』に針千本さんの例を借りて作るとすると
(一部変えさせていただきました)
−−−−−−−−−−−−
「a.k.a. Satan」を おぼえ よ う
do _ do _ so _ so _ la la _ so
こく ご じてんを ひくために
fa__ fa_ mi_ mi_ re re do
さいしょの ごもじを おぼえたら
so _ so _ fa _ fa _ mi mi re
つぎ の ごもじも おぼえよう
so_ so__ fa fa__ mi mi re
How Many Years で ド ド゙ メ@までいきますか?
いかがでしょう。:p

I some times put it this way due to the R is somewhat of a L sound

RE: あかさたなはまやらわん
It doesn't make any sense, it's more like a jumble of Japanese words, but I made this up for myself to memorize the order:
あかさ たな は まやら わん
赤さ 棚 は マヤら 碗。
"Redness shelves are mayans' bowls."

RE: あかさたなはまやらわん
Jinksys introduced "hiragana song" on this thread..
funny song! "Learning Japanese is so much fun"♪♪
I guess that memorizing with sounds may help your learning.
I don't adhere to あかさたな.

I've just started trying to learn the kana, but if I knew I'd be more than happy to try to help out.
As of now though, it's a bit above my head. I could make a drum loop for someone . We could make this song a number one club hit...
