Please help me translate!

Post by MasterNico » Tue 05.17.2005 9:02 am

Can any one tell me what this means:

もじ が へん だったよ

この メール は へいき ですか?

Something about letters and mail but thats all i've got for sure, it seems fairly simple, but words like 'hen' and 'heiki' have several meanings. Any help would be greatly appriciated!

ah, yes, the infamous henna moji...

moji == characters

hen = strange

heiki is OK

Meaning: Your previous email came to me with jumbled characters. Is this message OK? (Apparently so, since you were able to read it)

What undoubtedly happened is that your message came through, not in Japanese characters, but in gibberish... boxes, wingdings, $codes etc. There was some sort of problem either with the way you sent Japanese or with the way s/he received it. This generally happens because there are several different standards for encoding Japanese characters.
