Again, true. People keep sparking my replies.
The American green card system seems to be set up to benefit everyone. You know, the whole "sick and needy" thing. The Japanese system, however, is very different. It is set up to beneift only Japan. If you want to do a job that any Japanese person can do... why should you do it instead of a Japanese person? Certain businesses require specialists from other countries (English speakers, performers, etc.) and so the work visas are set up with those companies in mind so they can get the manpower they need. The visas are not set up with foreigners in mind, so they can come play in Japan doing whatever job they can to get by.
So, if your education, experience, and special skills don't match the job you're applying to get the visa for, it will most likely be denied.

Ah shoot, and I thought I was going to be able to become nomadic with those wise hermits that pitch tents! Oh well, none of that matters to me. I'm gonna blow their minds with my guitar! Atsui ne!? Burning SOUL!:@

Maybe you can petition them to create a "wise tent-hermit" visa?
