Recent thread closures -- religion and politics
You may have noticed a few threads being closed lately. This is a result of stricter rules being enforced here at TJP. Please keep in mind that these rules are not being created to limit anyone's ability to express their views, but merely an attempt to keep this site running as smoothly as possible.
The admins have decided that since this is a forum about Japanese, discussions on politics and religion that do not directly relate to Japanese culture or language should not take place here. Due to our experience, we have found that knowing others' political and religious views can negatively affect the way people act towards one another on the forum. And, as we all know, any thread in which someone states strong politcal or religious views often turns into a heated discussion with various people being insulted and becoming angry.
This forum is devoted to the study and appreciation of the Japanese language and culture. Therefore, topics like these have no place here.
Please take a moment to read the updated forum rules, and if you have any questions, feel free to post here or to PM any one of the admins.
Thank you for your support and cooperation. TJP wouldn't exist without you!

I've got to say that I think that is a wise move.

It's not that I'm not knowledgeable, I just have trouble explaining the things I know ;)

Keo's an admin now. well, I'm not afraid of you P)
I'm glad for the no religion/politics rule--for what it's worth. Even in an off topic forum, religion and politics are just too inflamatory.
In the mean time I'm going to consider a way to give keo a proper initiation

Maybe we should give Infidel and keat a sub admin account with only rights to ban other sub admins. Then we place bets on who can ban whom first.

It all comes down to who has the higher level of skill in "Ban-dou" (the way of banning)

RE: Recent thread closures -- religion and politics
This is a very good decision.
This is the best site I have found where people discuss and share information about learning Japanese and the Japanese culture. I have learned so much here!
However, I think most people came here to increase their knowledge of Japan and the language. Discussions/ disputes about religion or politics ( not associated with Japan) or other personal life style choices do not serve that goal.
Thank you
Barbara
