RE: Kanji Handwriting Thread
I think it should be 一時半間, but I'm not entirely sure.
I would agree with you Richv, since that would make easier reading. However I think Kisshu is right. When you type the whole lot in Hiragana and press space, his version works but yours doesn't.
Incidentally- excellent handwriting everyone

oops... you're right, I meant to say "I'm not sure" intstead of "I'm nature". Looks like I was so concerned about my japanese's being correct that I went totally free style with the english. not good
I indeed wrote the word "言葉". I'll have to write 言 differently when it's on its own and put enough space between two kanji.

It's not really about space, it's rather about width.
Supposedly all kanji should be the same size, and approximately square. So one has to 'stretch' or 'squeeze' them until they fit squares of the same size.
Compare, for example, these three kanji: 女少妙. All of them are the same size even though the third one combines the other two (each of them squeezed to half their width). And one hardly needs a little white space between them to see what belongs to each character.

Hi guys! This is really a good idea for a thread! Here's my japanese handwriting:

The kana and kanji is quite off, hope it's still readable. よろしくお願いします、皆さん。
p.s. Frogmorton, beautiful kanji handwriting! Have you perhaps learned Chinese 'hanzi' before?

Well, going by google hits, I am, indeed wrong. There are 3 orders of magnitude more hits for 一時間半 than for 一時半間

Well, for the record, in English you can say both "one hour and a half" and "one and a half hours."

there is a slight difference in nuance though. The latter has a more pessimistic feel.

RE: Kanji Handwriting Thread
Oh what a beautiful and impressive and funny thread!
Some are perfect but I especially love 音楽家's handwritings. The waving bar in the left of は and round shapes of こ and い. I don't know why but I think they seem artistic. In addition, I can't stop laughing with うんち出た! (childish in the funniest way!)
:p B)
:@
Also, frogmorton's (ルカ) one is impressive. It definitely looks like 9-year old Japanese school boy's! No offense intended. That's proper and with somewhat young feeling!
He must have learn correct stroke orders and maybe that makes it look much like a Japanese handwriting.
I'm too much amused!! Thanks guys!!

Where's the input form page of a kanji? Do you have the link of the page in WWWJDIC?
