Sad, I wish that he didn't have to go. That story is on the front page of Yahoo.

I just saw it on CNN. The Prime Minister of Australia was talking about it, and even he looked a bit teary eyed. Steve Irwin was truely and incredible man, and he will be missed very much

it is sad, but he tended to be a bit careless with some animals. you had to expect it someday.

Well, it was expected, and yet unexpected. But either way, it is sad...

He's one of those people, then even when they are dead their spirit & energy can still be felt. As if they haven't stopped living, their physical form changed.

That aside he and Steve were actually good friends.
I heard a replay of an interview with Steve Irwin on the radio this morning in which he talked about his friendship with Prime Minister John Howard. Steve said he didn't share his political views because he (Steve) was a conservationist but he got on well with him as a person. Steve pointed out that when you are trying to get conservation issues legislated it doesn't hurt to have the ear of the man at the top.
Steve also talked about how John Howard invited him to a dinner held for George W. Bush when Bush visited Australia in 2003 because Bush was keen to meet Steve.
I agree with Keatonatron and others who have said that Steve's death being the result of an encounter with a wild creature is not unexpected but I personally thought it would more likely be from a snake bite. Apparently there have only been 17 fatal stingray attacks recorded worldwide.
Don't complain to me that people kick you when you're down. It's your own fault for lying there

I've never met the guy, but it feels like I've lost a friend.
He was a good man, I hope his family and staff at his zoo can continue the great work he did for animal conservation.
Rest in Peace Steve〜

He was living on borrowed time, considering his sometimes confrontational way wiht animals. You cannot take the same attitude with animals as you do with humans. Humans have the abililty to stop and think about how they are going to respond to a perceived threat. Animals act on instinct. If they perceive a threat, they will defend themselves. We all knew in the back of our minds that this day would come. What's surprising is that his death cam at the hands (or barbs) or a creature not known for attacking humans.

The weird part is that the the man ray that killed him normally isn´t this violent.
Good luck with studying everybody and I hope one day I will be able to pick it back up.
Until then, a nice goodbye from me to you
