ケロロ 軍曹
I've been watching the anime now for some time and I'm really enjoying it. Keroro is such a cute but evil little frog that keeps me laughing through the episodes.
Anyone else here who likes it?
I'm thinking about buying the manga volumes, I saw that they were only $80 on ebay (volume 1-12 in Japanese). Does anyone know if they are much different from the anime?

I love it. I particularly like the current song they have with the end credits.

I absolutely love Keroro Gunso! Of course, I read the English version of the manga, Sgt. Frog, but... yeah. I can't wait for volume twelve to get shipped!
Absolute favorite character = Tamama, Natsumi is a close second, and Giro is third! I like all of the characters, really... and the art style is awesome!
Sgt. Frog is second only to Rurouni Kenshin... along with a lot of other manga. I have no third places, but maybe fifty ties for second.
Interesting thing: I read the title of this thread without knowing the katakana for 'ke' or the kanji for 'gunso...' Somehow, I figured that if there was a -roro, it had to be Keroro Gunso! I find that awesome, but... >_>

Sometimes I think that I'm afraid of thinking, and that scares me.

Ha I did too. I love Sgt. Frog. Its one of my favorite manga. I have only seen the first two episodes though...but I'll probably start watching after I finish Yuuutsu no Haruhi.
O yeah I also sometimes set the ending song, Afuro no Gunso, as my alarm (I burned it onto a CD)

Maybe someone here knows what this "であります" that ケロロ says means? Is it a millitary word or way of speaking?

It's just a somewhat old-fashioned equivalent of です (see である in a [wiki=Dictionaries]dictionary[/wiki] for more detail).

Also 軍曹 uses であります in a completely bizzare/mistaken way, because he's an alien. I wouldn't recommend following his speech patters.

ppl might recognize the speech patterns from the anime. I hear its doing really well in japan. From the two episodes I saw on youtube, the anime seems to follow the manga pretty faithfully but I've only seen the first two eps. I've also read manga vol 1-9(i think).

Here, ppl should be replaced by "Geeks" or "Children"
It's a fairly new show, and while it has a great geek following, it has not really pervaded modern culture in any way other than through toys at the UFO catcher.
If you speak like that, you will be thought of as really weird. It's probably right up there (if not worse) than だってばよ

RE: ケロロ 軍曹
(Honestly, I should have better things to do than watch anime, but the listening practice and vocabulary are very useful.)
I had a look at a few episodes on youtube. It is quite weird to me, but I have never been into anime before so it might be just me.
Did you notice how the different characters end their sentences? (I think one always says であります, one says です with the su drawn out, one says だぜ and one says でござる). Also, I notice that one of the characters keep using 四字熟語 in her speech.
Other than that, I thought the speech patterns are fairly standard.
One thing which really baffles me is episode 18. I cannot for the life of me figure out what Natsumi is saying after she is transformed into speaking like an ojii-san with 関西弁.

Those are pretty big for an "other than that"
