Ghosts/Spirits in Japan.

This is the first thread I've read on the site, after the rules of course. I have to say that some of those were pretty creepy. Now my little brother is going to have to hear a story about human fireflies... only more scary... and right before he goes to bed. Oh man, I'm the best big sister ever!

o and I've only seen ghost stories dubbed on demand. Does anyone know if its any better subbed? The people who did the dubbing really Americanized it but in this case it probably wasn't the wrong thing to do...anyway how is ghost stories?

Dubbing sucks, first and last.

With the original soundtrack, you get the original actors' emotions and original content and context. C'mon!

Especially when watching at work. Bonus points if the subtitles can be split into a seperate window for review when you must look away. (Closed Captioning system)

I agree and disagree. See above for usefullness. Even better if you read them in their original language. I have seen a few episodes of some animes that are subtitled in English at the bottom of the screen, and Furigana(sp?) at the top (Kanji with Hiragana above it for pronunciation)

Frumious -- of course, learning the lingo is the best route.

But in the case of seeking the lesser of two evils -- sub or dub -- dubbing is easily the most evil.

Of course. That's why I don't do dubbing. Besides, it always makes things sound silly.

I love Japanese ghost stories and such ^o^ I don't know any places or ghosts that weren't already mentioned though...
