Talk like a samurai day??

In the spirit of "Talk like a Pirate Day" (and the fact that awad had words associated with pirates all week!) I gotta ask:

Why not "Talk like a Samurai Day"?

We need a "Kotoba Zamurai" --> Nihongo dictionary though...

(with tongue firmly in cheek)...

Because samurai don't speak English, and their Japanese is somewhat difficult, which means everyone but Tony, Harisenbon, Mukade, Mike, and a few others would be totally lost.

Actually, if it's the pseudo-classical talk commonly used in the jidaigeki on tv, I think I can manage.

Kind of like peppering your speech with a few 'thees' and 'thous' in order to sound 'Shakespearean,' just call everyone 様 and end everything with 〜でござる.

Well, we can have a "speak like a pirate" day because everyone knows the (fictionalized) way pirates speak. But how to samurai speak? I've never heard even fictionalized samurai speak in English, so I wouldn't know where to begin.

The reason: With the ongoing battle between Pirates and Ninjas, in the days before Talk Like a Pirate Day, Talk like a Ninja day is sneaking up to the day, pounces Talk Like a Pirate Day, and then quickly disappears, leaving no trace.

Talk like a Samurai Day just doesn't have that kind of stealth.

Talk Like a Pirate Ninja and Talk Like a Ninja Pirate days are gaining momentum, too.

STFU Day is also starting to get popular with all these other days crowding the place.

as for talk like a samurai day.. i guess you could yell iai all the time and pretend to decapitate someone..

Ah, the Opposite Day paradox.

Because on opposite day, you do the opposite of what you normally do, so on opposite day you do the opposite if oppostie day, which is a normal day. B)

sakana, you should definately rethink your thought there. it isn't opposite of opposite day, it's the opposite of normal.. which for you might be abnormal and in your case you could finally be normal..

Well, then you are being more specific about it. With that limitation in place, it becomes possible.

I've always wondered when Opposite Day really is. Is it on a Thursday?

...Was samurai speech really all that different from normal speech of the time? I'm sure there were some differences, but... O_o
