Housing for Foreigners

My question isn't directed as a long term basis move but as an alternative to staying in a hotel. I've heard that there are such places that let you rent out a house for a month but haven't found any and am questioning as to whether such places exist.
Perhaps I should explain my situation: My friend and I have ideas to stay in Tokyo for a month to simply to "kick back and relax" after our final semester of university before entering the workforce and are looking at our options for a place to stay. I do have friends in Chiba but I don't like the idea of staying with them just for my benefit.
Any help is much appreciated and please feel free to make any suggestions you have.

I think renting a whole "House" would be a bit to expensive

Sakura house looked pretty legitimate when I was in the market for a short term stay between language school and Uni when I lived in Tokyo. I ended up crashing with a friend instead, so I can't give you a first-hand account.

If you can manage, I'd recommend getting outside of Tokyo. I personally recommend Fukuoka. It's big enough to be considered a city, but it's quiet enough to be considered relaxing. Plus, it has the beach.

Haha I guess that is a bit miss leading...There was a reason for the quotations If I really wanted to "kick back and relax" I would go to Kyoto or Kobe.

For me, it was Kofu. A bit closer to Tokyo than Kyoto, and less stuff I wanted to do. Every time I went to Kyoto it seemed I was always going off looking for something. In Kofu, there were a few things I always went to -- Takeda Jinja, etc. -- and just liked to view the mountain scenery and hike around. Great hiking in Yamanashi.

I remember my first trip to Japan I spent most of around Mt. Fuji with my friend and her cousins during the spring. It was very relaxing and the hike up Mt Fuji was so nice(we only got as high as 2000ft before all sections were blocked off due to snow). The onsen there are so amazing becuase I feel those are as authentic as you can get. Of course Fujiyuki was just as cool
