Are these sentences correct?

Postby Dani » Wed 06.22.2005 2:24 am

If these kind of topics are not permitted, I'm sorry. I have written what each sentence is intended to say under each one, please tell me if these are correct or not. If they are incorrect, please help me learn by telling me what is wrong.

あたしのご飯は、おいしくて、赤くて、とても好き。
My rice is delicious, red, and I like it very much.

東京に行って、スモを遊ばなくて、映画を見った。
I went to tokyo, did not play sumo, and saw a movie.

かれが醜いので、あたしはいきたくない!
He's ugly, so I don't want to go!

あたしの顔はとても美しいので沢山の人が好きですよ!
My face is very beautiful, so many people like it.

毎日仮粧を付ってのに、彼女は醜いです
Despite applying makeup everyday, she was ugly.

Thank you very much!

1) In your sentences, you are trying to first describing the rice, and then saying that you like it. But because your subject has not changed, you are saying that the rice likes (something)
私のご飯はおいしくて,赤かいです,だからそのご飯が好き。 would be better, I think

2) One does not play sumo. You should say する, also なくて is wrong. Also, watching a movie and sumo have little to do with each other, so putting them into seperate ideas would be better. Also Sumo is すもう
私は東京に行った.相撲してないけど,映画を見ました。

3)This is correct, but
彼が醜いから,一緒に行きたくない. Might be better

4) I'm not quite sure how to do this because passive form of addjectives is my weakpoint, but this might be correct. As you've said it now, your face likes a lot of people.
私の顔はとても美しいから,たくさんの人に好きになった。

5)化粧 is the correct kanji, I believe. also, you might want to put a まだ in the predicate. And you apply makeup with する
毎日化粧するのに,彼女はまだ醜い。

Or so I think. ;)

If ya don't mind I'd just like to add a quick little coment on number 4 here...

When dealing with words like kirei and utsukushii and what not, you don't really have to mention anything about said person's face being pretty. You can if you want, but when someone says "wow, she's really pretty" it's kind of implied that it's her face that's pretty. There were also a few minor mistakes that I saw too, here's what my version looks like...

私はとてもきれいだから、たくさんの人が私のことを好きになった

why "なった"? is that not the past form?

at any rate, thank you both. i am just beginning to learn how to construct sentences like the ones above, so your corrections are really helping.

Because they came to like it.

Like I said, I *THINK* that's correct, but passive adjectives are not my strong suit. :(
