Well, you could say:
watashi no nihongo o narau
Don't know if that's correct, but if so, it'd translate into:
I'm learn Japanese (but I'm sure people will take it to mean "I'm learning Japanese")

true, iru means 'to be' for animate objects (and aru is 'to be' for inanimate objects). but it's also used for many other things. the -te form of a verb is also used for many things. and Vte+iru == -ing among other things (at least according to my book o' verbs).
i would translate it something like...
(me) doing the japanese study (exists at this moment in time). == i'm studying japanese (right now).

「日本語を習っている」 works just fine for 'I am learning Japanese' as far as I know. If you are learning it formally, you might use the term 'study' as well: Nihongo wo benkyou shite iru. 「日本語を勉強している」

Yea i thought it meant some thing else.. but then if it means to be i guess theres just a complete different word for the ing.. but i'v never seen any words english words that end with ing on sites.. like learning i'v never seen that word only learn which is narau i think.. if it is a different words how come there isn't any ing english words on any site.. this is getting really confusing
