I think some of this geographic problems that occur also have to do with some of the maps that are being used. Like in the US, most schools use the Mercator Map which has to be the worst possible map ever spawned...

It shows Greenland as being the size of Africa...(it's 1/14 Africa's size)
Europe as being as big as South America...
Germany is put right in the middle of the map (The man who made the map was German)
Russia becomes this huge (even more huge than it is supposed to be)monstrous country that takes up almost all of Eurasia
And the Northern Hemisphere is given 2/3s of the map while the Southern Hemisphere gets only the other third. It should be the same...

Man, do I hate that map...

As for the good dancer stereotype of America, I can easily see where it comes from. To be honest, I would think the US contains a great deal of the world's best dancers.

I personally find stereotypes to be hilarious (mainly cause they completely screw up the visual impression I give people). I give off a rather intimidating aura (6 foot, large build, black clothes, trench coat when it's cold). But if you really get to know me, you figure out I'm a friendly psychopath who tries to get a laugh out of everything.

I'm compelled to point out that the stereotype USAmericans have here is exactly the opposite. Stiff, bad dancers.

EDIT: By the way, I must admit I'm a bad dancer myself. If I had to choose, I would choose people expecting me to dance badly instead of people getting disappointed that I'm no latino salsa expert or something (which happened to me quite frequently when I lived abroad for a short time).

Russia (The Russian Federation) is in Eurasia. So part of Russia is in Asia and part is in Europe. I'm fairly certain that the Russians living in the Kaliningrad Oblast don't see themselves as Asian.

I think the "Asian continent" has too much land mass to be of any help. Calling someone Asian by those terms is less specific than saying nothing at all.

I wouldn't call i asia either (well i call it south west asia), though it is part of it.

actually, stereotypes are rude if you just automatically assume that everybody in the group will fit them. However, they can be extremely helpful (if they're accurate). I'll admit that thinking all Aussies herd sheep and ride around in kangaroo pouches is gonna leave you a bit surprised. Though if you're under the impression that people who listen to rap are open to peer pressure, you'd be surprised how many times the stereotype fits.
