Learning Order

Postby Taseea_Bat » Mon 07.11.2005 11:06 am

Hi!
I'm kinda new to learning Japanese (althought I know some vocab and hiragana). I was wondering what the best order to learn things in was.
I wanted to know quite early on so that I could start learning right away knowing I'm not making a mistake.

Thanks in advance.

Learn hiragana first, then katakana and after that start on some Kanji...
That's the way my teacher went oabout it anyway.

Konnichiwa!
Well, what I did was learn all hiragana first and made sure I knew them all, then started Katakana. While I was doing Katakana, I also did Grammar and Vocabulary because Clay hasn't gotten around to posting all the Katakana lessons yet. I am pretty sure of myself in Hiragana and I still study them to make sure I don't forget. I find this the most effective way. I also wrote out the Hiragana and Katakana 100 times on a sheet of paper! So I'd say ask Clay, and he will point out the best way to go about things. Good luck!;)

I would start learning hiragana and kanji, then start katakana.

Umm. why?

Katakana is arguably the most useful of the alphabets for foreginers, as almost all katakana words are foreign words.

And there are about 500 times more kanji than katakana.

Or were you joking?:D

Hmmmmm, I agree. The Kana should be learned first; it helps alot more and it seems to me that you make progress faster than with Kanji (because it is more difficult).
