Question

Postby Banzai_Bandit » Fri 07.15.2005 12:48 pm

My mom has passed away a few weeks ago and one of her friends said that the soul stays on earth for 49 days and she wants to do a ceremony. Does anyone have any information on this tradition?

Thanks,

i wish to offer my condolences to you, and i sincerely hope you are hanging in there. about the tradition, usually it's 40 days, even for most cultures, not just for christians. so where could she have gotten that 49 days? i am really not sure what culture that may be. but as for the 40 days, most people believe that the soul does stay here on earth before it finally goes to heaven on the 40th day, so what people mostly do is offer mass during that time.

personally for me, i doesn't really matter how many days have passed as long as you say your goodbyes properly. and when she finally goes to heaven, she'll still be right here in your hearts, wouldn't she...

I found information that he wants.
This is a story of the Buddhism.
This site is written in Japanese.
Could anyone translate this for him?
