慇懃の「懃」が出てくるとは思いませんでした。(葱に見えました :D
文字サイズを変えられると見やすくていいんですけど ;)

Lol. I took a different route: 花 薬 楽 木 箱 答 給 糸 紫 止....I think that was part of what I did...I can't remember. Oh well, it was this long thing that finally got me to 貝 :D

I don't think the challenge comes from doing it in 7 or fewer steps. I think the challenge must lie in thinking up something that can't be done in fewer than 3 or maybe 4 steps.

There must be some combinations that are impossible to do.

How about this kanji -> anything else at all.

The "1/2 rule" kills that one pretty well. Unless we consider it in "upper half / lower half" and use the subtraction rule to eliminate the bottom, leaving us only with 鹿 to deal with. From there, it should be easy to take off in a multitude of directions.
