and you don't say how you are accomplishing this clean look... while i totally appreciate the desire for a clean look, i hope that whatever method you are using is ex-post-facto on the display side so that the TJP site doesn't loose what $$ does come in for viewing the google/friends/etc ad thingys... (about the only reason i haven't adblock/spider-monkey 'd on TJP so far...)

The Friends box has been blank for a few days now. I thought it was something wrong on the server side.
The clean look is achieved by using Firefox and the "RIP" (Remove It Permanently) extension. As far as I can tell, all the elements are still loaded. You just get to decide which elements will be blocked from display. There is a little tombstone icon down in the lower right corner of the browser that allows for temporary override to display all hidden elements. And things can be adjusted in the preferences as well. The set of filters can even be exported/imported for sharing between users.
In addition to all the obvious filters, I also cleared out several of the subfora that I never frequent. The great thing is that it is 100% customizable....and reversible.

Maybe just nobody wants to be your friend. Although that may change with your dashingly debonaire new avatar.

RE: TJP Uncluttered
It took me a bit of work. First I paged through 400+ extentions, then I did a seach for RIP and paged through 130+ extentions, then I did a search for Remove It Permanently and it was the top choice.
In the mean time I installed all kinds of sweet extentions. A tiny url creater. That's sweet.
I'll probably spend a few days getting used to all these tools. Unfortunatly, the U3 version of firefox is version 1.5 and it doesn't support any of the spellchecking add ons, and I could really use a spellchecker.
I'll probably eventually get the most utility from this free e-book search tool. Can't get better than free. And I think I'll announce that I to am removing the shoutbox from my version of the website.

See? Anyone who wants the Shoutbox to not be there can make it disappear. Same for any other element.
All that, plus a Ronald Colman avatar. What could be sweeter?

Does it block out posts with smilies in them for you too?

I use Adblock to block the smilies. The rest of the post still shows up.

Waste_of_time. :p
If you have sensitive eyes, take a trip to specsavers B) I'm not an untidy person- but I don't get headaches because the shout-box is obstructing my view

A subjective assessment.

Who said anything about sensitive eyes? I'm just trying to cut down on my exposure to vapidity.

Mike has an acute sensitivity to nonsensicle drivel and/or stupidity. Ufortunately, that can't be corrected with glasses. (Unless, perhaps, you bought some with opaque black lenses)
