Final Fantasy VII for Windows (Japanese) ... doesn't install on Windows XP. Stick to the PS one if you can find it.

Btw thanks for making this thread. Finding FFVII in Japanese seems to be easier than finding a Japanese PS. I can't afford to buy a Japanese PS2- but the Playstation (1) is rare enough nowadays let alone trying to get one from Japan. It's either computer or nothing.

Like I said before, エミュー. You can play genuine PS CD's on a normal Windows XP computer with a suitable emulator.

Have you tried running it using the program compatibility wizard? It emulates older windows OS'es on XP, you should be able to find it in the program -> accessories folder of the start menu.

Nope, but I've tried the compatibility wizard quite a lot in the past and for this particular type of crash it's never been any good. I get the feeling Windows XP got less compatible when the service pack came in.

SP2 sounds like a good candidate; I know it made many games FUBAR. Haven't researched this one at all, though.
