自由が丘

In a script, a train conductor says:

次は、自由が丘、自由が丘でごさいます。

It seems to me that 自由が丘 is a place but I don't understand how a name could be in this form with が. Does it mean something like "hill of freedom"? Thanks for any help.

You can have place names with a が　in them. I live in 関が原 (せきがはら）。

自由が丘 is near Tokyo (I believe).

OK, I think I understand the meanings of the names too now. In normal speech, not being used as place names, they would be 自由がある丘 and 関がある原. Or could they show up in normal speech as 自由が丘 or 関が原 without being place names??

But it's wierd to say that. Just like you wouldn't say Jacksonville is the Village of Jackson. You CAN say it, but it's kinda wierd.

自由が丘、関ヶ原、希望ヶ丘（きぼうがおか）、梅ヶ丘（うめがおか）、夢が丘（ゆめがおか）、ユーカリが丘、千鳥ヶ淵（ちどりがふち）、霞ヶ関（かすみがせき）、霞ヶ浦（かすみがうら）、霧ヶ峰（きりがみね）。
これらの地名（ちめい）に使（つか）われている「が」は「の」に同（おな）じ。
つまり、地名の「自由が丘」の意味（いみ）するところはまさしく「自由の丘」であり、先（さき）に述（の）べられた"hill of freedom"と同義（どうぎ）であります。
我が家（わがや）、我が子（わがこ）、塞翁が馬（さいおうがうま）、君が代（きみがよ）、といった語（ご）が想起（そうき）されれば、理解（りかい）は容易（ようい）であろうと存（ぞん）じます。
