Axis and Allies
Axis and Allies
Is anyone good at this game or at least know how to play?
There's this really awesome site where you can play it online (turn-based--it sends you an e-mail when it's your turn then you log in to make your moves). I've been really into it, but it's been hard to find dependable people to play with. It seems like as soon as the game starts going someone quits or doesn't log in for a week which really kills gameplay. So, I was thinking I should start a game with people who are on the internet a lot, and I knew just where to look!
The site is http://www.gamesbyemail.com, and the direct link to the A&A clone is http://gamesbyemail.com/Games/WW2.
If anyone is interested, let me know!!!

I remember that game. The first thing I would always do is take over South America or Africa depending on which was closer to me.

I'll play... I haven't played A&A in so long I don't even remember how to play, so I'll probably suck... but, I'm at the computer all day long so at least I'll make my moves quickly

Online Axis&Allies? Wow, that'll be great! I'm usually online for the whole day and I would really like to play against human instead of AI
Any problems with GMT+1 time?

This is the first I've heard of the game, but it sounds intriguing. Give me a few days to get around to learning a bit more about it and I may join in.
Is it necessary to have a physical copy of the game in order to follow along? Or is there some sort of graphical interface for the computer?

It's really easy. The board game is notoriously difficult to start learning, but the online one tells you what to do in what order, and won't let you make an illegal move so it's quite easy to just get started. Everything is recorded on the server (it's not really a "by mail" game; they only use mail to notify you of your turn).
If you click on the second link I posted above and choose the tab that says "preview game" or something, you can see what the interface is like.
The online version is built very closely around the board game, the (long) rules to which can be found here: http://www.wizards.com/avalonhill/rules/axis.pdf
Using my admin powers I can find the e-mail address of anyone who wants to play and set up a game, if you simply post here (don't worry, the game won't share your e-mail with anyone!!)

I'd like to try, even though I played the game just once
the email in the profile is not the one I'd use to play however

Alright, I gave the demo a whirl. I suppose I can figure it out as I go along, with occasional reference to the rules. I'll use the email in my profile. Sign me up, but be aware of the limitations placed on me by my Dickensian working hours.

Alrighty, anyone who doesn't want their profile e-mail used should PM me with the address they want me to use. We can do a practice round so Mike and Lego can get oriented

RE: Axis and Allies
axis and allies is one of the premier tabletop wargames. there are even books and miniatures going along with it that get down to exacting details. while I don't play Axis and Allies, (a very fun game I might add) I do use miniatures and do play tabletop wargames and Axis and Allies was my avenue into such gaming.
