F*'d up Kanji tattoos
I was reading the FAQ section and I got very curious.
How many messed up Kanji tattoos have you seen?
I only know of one person who was dumb enough to
get a kanji tattoo in the states. He wanted Hero (英雄)
but ended up getting ocean (海洋).

RE: F*'d up Kanji tattoos
My friend got a Kanji tattoo but was smart enough not to trust the tattoo parlour's command of Japanese / Chinese so came to me to write it for her in the right direction and all!

You can edit your posts, you know...
Unfortunately I don't have as much time to learn Japanese as I would like, and therefore I am rather inactive on this forum. Yet I have learnt so much just by reading the "Recent Posts" page every once in a while. I respect those who have taken the time to write up explanations to help others, especially those who have written in a language which is not their native language.

衷 zhōng - inner feelings, as in 由衷之言 you zhong zhi yan - words spoken from the bottom of one’s heart.
哀 āi - grief, sorrow, as in 喜怒哀樂 xi nu ai le - joy, anger, grief, happiness

I saw someone with this tatto'ed on his arm:
悪愛
I told him that his tattoo was interesting and he says it means "love" and "hate." I am sorry that is more like "bad" and "love".

My favorite was the guy I saw at Hot Topic with 精子 on his neck. He said it meant "Spirit Child"

RE: F*'d up Kanji tattoos
wow. I just looked that kanji on the left up in the Jim Breen dictionary, and among the meanings were "fairy" and "semen." Unless he's a gay person with a really good sense of humor, I'm guessing he dropped the ball on that one.
I guess it had "refined" as a meaning too though. So I dunno.

HeyItsMatt,
I'm not quite sure how you looked up that word, but there's only one translation for 精子, and believe me, it's not "refined".
EDIT: Oh, I got it. You looked up only 精 . Try looking at it as a whole word.

The pitfalls of kanji: 1+1 doesn't always add up to 2...
