list poster's sex
Though referring to a poster as 'he' even when they're female brings up a topic for conversation, I think it would still be worth while to give people an option to list their sex. If you could add a drop box option (male, female, not given) to the Edit Profile page, then you could just make a 'Sex: ____" line in the post count, location, and join date section on each post. Then we can more easily mistake a person's sex and bring about delightful conversation.

I beg you to do the dropbox. Otherwise we'll end up with "creative" content like there is now in the location: "Location: Right here lolz!"
Sex: Yes, please!

Have you confused this site with a dating agency?

As long as solid, well written, educational, humourous content is posted, would it matter if Montgomery the cigar smoking monkey was the author?

Yes. Because then I would put him in a cage with a typewriter and make him write for me. While he smokes those cute little cigars! hoohoo!
Ontopic
I figure if someone is concerned enough about being called s/he then they'll choose an avatar that expresses their sex, or put something in their signature that says "hey I'm a guy" or something like that.

I don't see what the big deal is. As a matter of fact, I happen to love to keep people guessing for a while. My opinions shouldn't be any different whether I'm male female or seapony, unless you're looking for a hot date, in which case I'll refer you to Tony. He's felt the sting of my patented smiting stick. My current avatar's a dead givaway anyway, I think. I vote we leave it be.

I agree upon this. It'll be easier to identify people too. heh.
Oh!! Does anybody remember this?
NOTE TO ALL: I am girl!

Kisshu? I don't know how many times people had mistaken kanadajin for a girl when he had a yuna avatar. Oh how they were so wrong. I thought he was a girl until I saw his pics.

I think I got called a girl a couple times but now that's over with. And sorry Akumu, if you're reading this but even though I know you're a guy I can't stop thinking that you're a girl. It must be the sig.
Two muffins were baking in an oven. One turns to the other and says "sure is hot in here." The other replies "AH TALKING MUFFIN!"

Sex: Yes, please!
Perhaps you would be better off calling it "gender" so that people don't get too excited

This one made me laugh right out loud and my brother had to find out what was so funny.
I agree that "gender" would be a more harmless way of putting it. But I do wonder why this is an issue all of a sudden. I think I've pointed out once that I'm female despite having a male avatar. I just happen to love that picture.
