Don't be silly, Fuji-san is obviously Ms. Fuji.
Oh, nonsense, a grande dame like Fuji-san would obviously be Mrs. Fuji.

To give 富士さん the respect she deserves, you should really call her 富士様。

I think Mama Fuji would be best for a woman of that large... stature.

what about ~たん?
I believe -tan is how a child says 'chan'. Has more 'cutesy' connotations.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm pretty sure that -tan is mostly used in entertainment (anime, etc.) to impart a childish feeling -- I don't know if many actual children use -tan in real life (aside from if they are intentionally copying some anime). I could be wrong, though.

A teacher I worked with was named Mr. Fujii 藤井
We went together to teach a onetime class to some 3rd graders. He introduced himselves as Mr. Fujii, and all the Kids started bursting out laughing.
うそ!富士山?!?フジ先生?!すげぇ!うそ!
poor guy.. Almost as bad as me..
キース先生?キース?!キス。キスキス!チュウチュウ!
and then they started puckering their little mouths at me.

I'd say he has a few more problems than just his name

RE: くん and ちゃん
May I ask what "-Dono" means? I've only heard it once in Anime. I know people have something against Anime fans on this board but I can't say I've ever heard it anywhere else.
Oh and I'd write it in Hiragana but I'm having problems with the language bar. It seems to want to eat up 100% of my system resources every 2 minutes. O_o

dono is kind of like "lord" I believe.
Very funny line from Bleach: Would you like more soup, freeloader-dono?

Two muffins were baking in an oven. One turns to the other and says "sure is hot in here." The other replies "AH TALKING MUFFIN!"
二つのマフィンがオーブンで焼かれていた。片方のマフィンがもう一方のマフィンに向かって、"暑いね”と言った。すると、話しかけられたほうのマフィンは"アッ!喋るマフィンだ!”と驚いた。 :)

I think this board is actually quite nice to anime fans.
Well, it's not like they tell you to get out or anything but there was a big conversation about it a while back. It may still be in the "Why do you want to learn Japanese?" thread.
I just noticed a bit of frowning upon people who say "I like Anime/Games/Manga so I want to learn Japanese". I can kind of see why they would frown on that, if that's all you like it's a shallow view of Japan/the Japanese culture, but it's also a gateway to becoming interested in the language and everything else about the country.
Anyway I'm kind of hijacking the thread. To make it short: Yeah there are a lot of people who say they want to know Japanese so they can yell "Super Dragon Punch!!!" from the rooftops in Japanese, but there's also a lot of people who legitimately want to learn the language and also enjoy Anime or whatever else.
Hope that makes sense.

It's the most high-falutin' of the currently used honorifics. In a sense, it has that same feeling as "esquire" at the end of addresses to lawyers (where, by the way, it is used in Japan).

In general, we try to withold judgement of a person here until they either request it, or their actions specifically call for it.

And, yes, you should watch out for TSA/airport security when making that type of post.[/bad movie reference]
