seven samurai
Wasn't there a thread about this already? I remember ajbryant talking about it. Apparently I hadn't seen it already. I saw it finally, and it was good.
Kurisawa the actor is quite a character. It's funny seeing him act in this and comparing it to other movies.
The scenery is beautiful. The story is funny and endearing and thoughtful. The samurai's humanity is portrayed.
Uggh.. Toshiro Mifune the actor, not Kurisawa.... Kurosawa the great director of course.

RE: seven samurai
It is definitely a classic. I was told by a professor at university that each of the actors playing the samurai modeled his character after an animal. Any guesses at what animal each actor modeled? (Mifune should be easy.)

RE: seven samurai
The right answers should be interesting. I bet these are wrong:
Mifune - Monkey
First (lead) samurai - Bear
Kukichiro Young apprentice - Deer
Gorobei - Otter
Wood chopping self-deprecating guy - Rat
Bamboo sword dueling guy - Fox
Remaining samurai that speaks little - Rabbit
Or maybe the wood chopping samurai is a Tanuki.

Well.... Uhhm...... Actually, that class was over twenty years ago, and the only one I remember is Mifune=monkey. I think that may be the only one the professor actually told us, letting us come to our own conclusions about the rest - just like I did.
