My handwriting sucks. T.T
I've been practicing for a VERY long time to get down my kana and kanji handwriting and it's just not working out.
Do you have any tips about handwriting in Japanese?
I mean, I'm so bad that when I write "ichi" in kanji it looks utterly wrong.

The only way to improve your handwriting is by finding handwriting examples and copying them over and over until you start to look like your model.

is still my favorite site for penji characters. You can print out the pdfs and trace them. This site is also a great place to learn the difference between written Japanese and type fonts. Some of the characters can be significantly different.

I've got messy handwriting in English as it is, so I doubt that my handwriting will be any different in Japanese. I think some of our characteristics carry over from one language to another.
But Hatori, how is your penmenship in English?

My handwriting in English depends on who you talk to. lol. If you talk to my English/Language Arts teacher she's always saying how much she likes it. If you talk to my parents, they say it looks terrible.
In my personal oppinion I think my handwriting is pretty good. I'm going to upload a sample of my handwriting in Japanese and English soon, so you can see in a day or two (urrr... or something.).

My parents say the same thing, that my handwriting is aweful. Yet I can barely read their "cursive."

Our parents are such hypocrites when it comes to certain things. lol! My mom has like "pre-school teacher" handwriting and my dad's looks like the stereotypical "Chinese" writing look to it so it looks foreign. lol!
