RE: Pretty Intense Japanese Lesson
I think she is absolutely taking the mickey out of herself, to be honest. Thats the impression I got in any event.

Watch the first 6 seconds (literally) of the first video linked to in the original post: "Hey friends, my name's Emily and I speak fluent Japanese."
at least she isn't afraid of getting out there and using the language
The problem is, she doesn't use it, she just babbles a bunch of nonsense to herself that happens to be in Japanese. Do you think any Japanese people tune in specifically to hear her talk about her hair color and whether or not she thinks it suits her (for 15 minutes)?
I would say she's practicing... but the fact that she posts all the videos online makes me wonder what her actual intentions are. Most of the comments she gets are from star-struck myspacers that have no idea what she's really saying.

My bet is that her father or mother speaks japanese, or that she had a tutor. They seem rather wealthy judging from her fathers office and apartment, so maybe he does business in Japan.
But, no, I don't believe for one second that she acquired her current level through music and videos only.

I've met lots of people just like her in Japan. In fact, she has the traits of a long-term Japan resident already:
a) Confident, with extremely dodgy Japanese.
b) Totally insane
She'll fit in well when she gets there eventually
Those sound more like the traits of relative newcomers who think they're long-term already. Those who are actually are long-term have generally gotten over themselves enough to be comfortable with their dodginess.
Never underestimate my capacity for pettiness.

I listened to her video blog a little more...Listened even more...
GAWD listening to her laugh at her own mindless dribble is so painful.
And yet you kept listening?
I think she's out of her mind. Just though that I'd share my own thoughts. Why is she even putting these videos on the internet? She isn't teaching anybody Japanese, she is just rambling on about random stuff.

I could never do any of what was in that video with a straight face. Ever.
「本当に dark, dark brown」
But hey... she's cute, I guess. I'll give her that. And, it's somewhat of listening practice.

Sometimes I think that I'm afraid of thinking, and that scares me.

What's funny is that she claims to be fluent but has to say "dark brown" in English. Wouldn't an 厚い茶色 or 暗い茶色 suffice?
Two muffins were baking in an oven. One turns to the other and says "sure is hot in here." The other replies "AH TALKING MUFFIN!"
二つのマフィンがオーブンで焼かれていた。片方のマフィンがもう一方のマフィンに向かって、"暑いね”と言った。すると、話しかけられたほうのマフィンは"アッ!喋るマフィンだ!”と驚いた。 :)

There is a possibility... I remember Jackie Chan saying he learned English through Country music.
Though, it is probably the hardest way to go about things in the end if it was like that.
