A nice goodbye from me to you
Hey everybody,
many of you might now know me but I hope some people I knew are still on. I used to be on this forum daily for at least six months. Now I´ve come to realize that I can´t do that.
I´ve been to New York recently for a long time to study filmmaking and ever since Im back thats all I breathe. I´ve noticed that it´s hard to try to do so many things at the same time.
I tried making movies, playing music, playing sports AND learning japanese next to it. That may not sound much but all four need devotion and a lot of it. So I stopped playing music, I play sports rarely and learning japanese has been lost for quite a while. As much as I would love to do all of it I know I cant. A piece of advice which is very general:
If you want to be good at something, you can't do everything you would like to do. It takes a lot of hard work and all of your time, energy and strength.
This thread is dedicated to all members that have been here since last summer, the ones that also remember my dumbass posts
Good luck everyone with learning japanese but remember, you can't have it all, I learned that the hard way
With filmmaking I hope I have the Japanese-learning community by my side:

Hopefully my first of many films to come!

I hope that one day you will be able to pick up Japanese again. It's a terrible thing to lose.
Good luck with your film making!

Aww... I hope things go well. I also make dumb ass posts, and I may be in the same situation as you for my next school year. I make my own movies, I play sports, learning Japanese, I might go back to my clarinet, plus I have honors classes for school next year.
I'll know how you feel soon enough, but it's something that we come upon in life.

Just remember that you don't have
be good at something to enjoy it. For
me Japanese is recreation, a nice way
to relax and unwind from my career
related studies. I may never become
good at it at this pace but after 3 years
of studying, I'm more excited about the
language than I was before I started
Anyway, good luck with the film making!
Cheerio!

Ganbatte...
I know how you feel. Due to work, to periods when you after a day haven't the energy to study or you know that studying would be useless, I sometime leave too japanese for awhile. But I'm taking again a little some things I did in the past (piano) and well, I'm happy I did them, they make me how I'm now.
So don't worry, if you really like japanese, you will continue someday.
If not you'll remember with pleasure (i hope) the time spent here.

Yes, sometimes multiple lives get too much; great of you to come to terms with it.
Make great movies, and maybe one day, you'll start again with japanese and sports!
So, enjoy your life.

I remember you from your avatar.
You know, it is possible to combine your interests. I will be studying filmmaking in Tokyo--I get to practice/study Japanese intensively every day and make films at the same time! Actually, I'll be doing music videos, so I get to mix Japanese, music, and film all into one.
Of course it took a lot of preparation to get to where I am, but if you plan it out it's doable.
