Penis Festivals....

Wow.. Those are got to be pretty amazing..

Have any one from here been on those?
Does all population comes to those events ( like kids and all that? )?

And does every city celebrate those? or is it like one year in one city, near year in other..?

I know what hes talkin about. I saw this on Dave Attel's Insomniac show years ago...they make huge peniss and walk around carrying them on floats....pretty funny...penis candy and stuff lmao

I have heard of them too. I watched something about Japan on Youtube and they had a festival like that in it. But they didn't refer to them as penises but as phalluses. There was a very wierd myth behind the festival.

I think the fertility festival that most of you are referring to is probably the Kanamara Matsuri. It's a regional festival held at the Hachiman-guu in Kawasaki every spring. It started in the 1600s, IIRC. I don't know if there are any other such festivals in other parts of the country though.

warning... it's only the western world that has a hangup in regards to sexuality, fertility, and procreation.

the lingam and yoni have been popular symbols of the supernatural in the non-western-christian-world since long before the christian-world even existed.

any sort of "OMG Private Parts!" oddity that you come across is a western/christian/catholic induced taboo. the "OMG penis!" thought that you have is a remnant of Roman Catholic "sex is evil" teaching.

outside of this particular philosophy; lingam and yoni, male and female, yang and yin... the natural world of production has been revered. higher lifeforms exist from the interplay between male and female, it takes one of each to bring forth a new thing.

if anything, you should be suprised that there is no giant lingam or yoni in your every day rememberance of your origin.

ponder long and hard as to why you don't have icons of reproductive systems as a large part of your belief system....

Although this is one of those things that is predictably exaggerated in the US because it fits the modern stereotype of Japanese as perverse/sexual deviants.

Another thing I read about the Kanamara Matsuri is that they also have vagina stuff there, but I suppose it doesn't get as much attention from gaijin

According to one site...

The festival is said to celebrate the vanquishing of a demon that lived in a woman's vagina and would bite off the penises of her lovers! According to legend, a local craftsman fashioned a steel phallus which broke the demon's teeth.

I wasn't aware that Japanese needed a steel phallus to break the virginity.
