grammar help on ゆきの物語
I have started trying to read ゆきの物語 and so far can follow the storyline, but there are some parts of the grammar I need help.
昔々(むかしむかし)、ある小(ちい)さな村(むら)にゆきという娘(むすめ)がおばあさんと二人(ふたり)で暮(く)らしていました。
how does the という comes in? I can't get who is quoting who.
娘 = daughter? I thought Yuki is a young guy with his mother. Who is the daughter here?
そして、ゆきと結婚(けっこん)したいという者(もの)も、誰(だれ)一人(ひとり)として現(あらわ)れたことはありませんでした。
I dun understand what does the という means again..
is there a english translated version of the story? I would want to be sure Im understanding what Im reading correctly

RE: grammar help on ゆきの物語
という can also mean "to be named" or "to be called". ゆきという娘 = "A daughter called yuki". Yuki is a girl (Yuuki is the guy's name).
という in the second instance is a descriptor, basically. "A person to whom Yuki wants to get married."

That should be "A person who wants to marry Yuki."
I'm moving this (like other threads about ゆきの物語) to the special section dedicated to it.

I realised it is Yuki and her grandmother
.. still dun understand how does the daughter char 娘 comes in.
I can understand the storyline in general but not sure of every grammar used, but reading this is so enjoyable
第二章 - 漁師(りょうし)との出会(であ)い
what does the との means? y are 2 particles used?

間(ま)もなくゆきは海(うみ)に着(つ)きました。砂浜(すなはま)で漁師(りょうし)が網(あみ)に開(あ)いた穴(あな)を繕(つくろ)っていました。
それからゆきは砂浜(すなはま)に座(すわ)りな がら網(あみ)を繕(つくろ)って、その間に漁師(りょうし)は海岸(かいがん)で貝(かい)を取(と)りました。
----------
開(あ)いた
座(すわ)りな
are these verb congugations? it doesnt look familiar to me at all.
これからどこに行くところなのですか」と漁師(りょうし)は聞(き)きました。
what does なの means? how is it used?

A lot of the relationship words can describe rough ages. 娘 - young woman, 母さん - young mother, おばさん - middle aged woman, おばあさん - old woman. That's what 娘 is doing here.

と is "with" here, and の indicates that the phrase 漁師と is modifying 出会い.
