選ばれし者

選ばれし者 is translated as "the chosen one" or "the chosen person"

but i wonder how 選ぶ(えらぶ) is being converted to 選ばれし?

:(

It's not from 'erabu', really, it's from 選ばれる (erabareru) is better translated as "be elected" or "be chosen"--as in by someone/thing else.

I'm not sure why that 'shi' is in there.... are you sure it's not just 'erabare-sha'? 選ばれ者ーえらばれしゃ?

I got it off from a comic book, with the hiragana on top of the 者(もの), so I think it's not wrong...

ok thanks for the correction ;)

選ばれし者 (選ばれた者)
"the chosen person" is correct.
I guess that it is "bookishness expression" or
"composition written in literary expression" in English.
and It is an expression of the old-time style.
(英語あってる?^^;)
文字で書く時に使います。
普通の会話文では、意識(ishiki)して使う時以外は使いません。
口語と文語における動詞"verb"と助動詞"auxiliary verb"
の活用を勉強すると分かるかもしれません。

<example>
忘れ去られし町(wasure sarareshi machi)(忘れ去られた町)
"the forgotten town"

降臨せし者(koorin seshi mono) (降臨した者)
"the advent person"
にはウサギがいて、火星にはタコがいるらしいが…

まあ、分かりやすいから、ええんちゃう? ;)

一つのポイントは、"literary expression"だけでいいんですよ。
そして、"It is an expression of the old-time style"じゃなくて、"It's a classical expression"の方がいいと思うねん。

がんばりゃ、さちゃん!:D
