くんれん is more like martial arts-type training, and with が it's almost like "THIS (and nothing else) is training." これはれんしゅうです is better.

As for は/が--wouldn't は be the one that implies contrast? Or is that only in negative sentences?

In this case the issue is not contrast, but known vs. unknown information.

これはX is used in cases where we can see (or know about) これ, and you're going to tell us something about it.

これがY is used in cases where we know about Y, and you're pointing out to us which thing/person/place/etc Y is -- typically what you're identifying is the only thing that is Y.

In this case we can see the thread here and what you've typed, and you want to make an additional comment about it (that it's practice), so は is appropriate.

(There is no strong connotation of contrast here although you can still see it if you think hard enough about it; but in this case it's more the topic-marking function of は that is important.)

Yeah, in general you should use あまり with negatives rather than とても. I have seen とても with negatives but I think it's considered slangish and it has the connotation of "very not hot [i.e. even less hot than normal/expected]" rather than "not very hot."

いいアルバイトを見つけたい would be more standard, you could also replace アルバイト with 仕事（しごと） if it's not part-time.
