Easy kanji prefixes

There are a number of fairly easy kanji that will help dramatically increase your vocabulary. These kanji have specific meanings that when added to other kanji or words, it changes the whole meaning in a logical way.

what do we call this kanji - 小 (small)

しょう・こ

小 as prefix is sometimes しょう and sometimes こ, so it's unfortunately not a 'utility' prefix that you can simply learn to read and have a bunch of extra vocabulary as bonus. You still have to learn every compound word that starts with 小 as its own word.
