Clay & Yumi's Big Announcement

We are expecting our second child. The due date is late September and as with Makoto, we will have the baby in Japan. This time however, we will have a two-year-old with us!
When Makoto was born, I made three trips back and forth between Japan and Florida in a span of five months. Maybe I'm getting old or perhaps my wanderlust for adventure has waned, but I don't want to do that again. This time I will go with Makoto and Yumi later this month (May 28th) and come back with Makoto, Yumi, and Baby sometime in October.
Also last time I was the only person running TheJapanShop.com. I hired a daughter of a friend to do the packing but I handled everything else by email or by staying in Japan a very short time each trip. It was an incredible amount of stress and difficult being away from Yumi and Makoto, but amazingly we survived. This time, we have several other people who can handle the majority of the business without me. It's nice not to be needed. I will of course do a lot remotely (Thanks to Mr. GotoMyPC.com) and by email.
We will be in Japan for a little over four months. Not having the normal day-to-day business work to do, I will have more time to work on TheJapanesePage.com. Speaking of TJP, Yumi's morning sickness came just when we were having extreme trouble with moving to the new servers a few months back. Yumi's energy level went down just as Makoto's energy level skyrocketed and the troubles at TJP multiplied. I didn't get much sleep then :)
We are excited but it will be quite a trip. (Think Makoto, a newborn, and two tired parents on a return trip)

WoW!

Congratulations Clay-san, Yumi-san!
What a great news! I really hope everything goes well ^_^

Congratulations

Congratulations...and good luck with a two-year-old on a transpacific flight! When my little brother was two we flew to Japan from Michigan, and in the hotel he kept on getting up at three in the morning!

Thanks! (Sorry I didn't reply earlier; guess I missed you!)

She will have a cesarean (because she had a surgery before and they recommend a cesarean after such surgery).

Last time (with Makoto), Yumi's parents and I were waiting in the waiting room (seems like a sensible thing to do). We were told to watch for a light on the panel to indicate when the surgery would start. When the light goes off, the surgery is done.

Well, we waited and waited. Finally the light flickered on and then off. We looked out and there they were coming out of the operation room. Either the nurse forgot to turn on the light or it was a very short surgery.

Thanks! No, don't know yet. We had an ultrasound but it was too early to know. We'll have another as soon as we get to Japan. Will report. :)

Congratulations!! Do you

Congratulations!! Do you already know the sex of the baby, or are you waiting for the suprise? In any case, it will be good for your wife and her family to have the baby in Japan. I hope it all goes well!

おめでとう

Exciting times ahead, then!
Enjoy your time in Japan. Are you allowed to stay with Yumi while the baby is born? Do they have home births in Japan?
I once saw a documentary about millennium babies being born all over the world, and the different circumstances were amazing.
I seem to remember that the fathers in Japan could follow the whole scene on a tv-screen, rather than being in the room?
(But I could be confusing things with China, actually....)

do let us know how you two (no, three and soon to be four) fare in the land of the rising sun!

We are all but images of our time

Thanks! Yes, the doctor

Thanks! Yes, the doctor said to leave no later than a month before the due date. I think it will work out to be about a month and a half. Last time we went over two months before, but Yumi was pretty lonely. Of course this time, Makoto and I will be there with her the whole time. (Last time I made three quick trips back and forth!)

The big announcement

Mazel Tov!
Very exciting news.......sounds like having the baby in Japan makes a lot of sense. The presence of family during times like this is very important.
I'm sure you already know this, but don't travel (or at least Yumi shouldn't travel) too close to the due date.
And don't forget to take lots of pictures and video and enjoy them while they're young! As the father of a 16 year old (who's now in Israel for a month) and an 11 year old (who's "out" for a sleepover birthday party), I am watching them become more independent with each passing day.......

Thanks! We greatly

Thanks! We greatly appreciate that.

I bought a new video camera with a harddrive. My old one was on Digital Tape which had great quality but was a pain to get on to the computer. This meant we almost never used it. This new camera is so easy to use and get on the computer, we use it all the time.

Memories... Pressed between the pages of my mind (and my harddrive)
Memories... Sweetened through the ages just like wine (and sake!)

Yes on all accounts. We had

Yes on all accounts. We had Makoto in Japan and it worked out well. It will be a big adjustment but it will give us a chance to live in Japan for 4-5 months. It will also greatly help Makoto's Japanese.

Congratulations! Enjoy them

Congratulations! Enjoy them while they're small! They grow up so very quickly! My brothers tease me that it's 'only' SIX YEARS until my oldest can learn to drive!!!! (My poor heart!)

Good luck to you and Yumi! I'll pray all goes well for you!

Maybe I am being a bit nosey, but what is the reasoning behind having the baby in Japan? citizenship? family? support?
