IN JAPAN !!!! NEED SOME HELP

Meitha's picture

hey everyone, I have been in Japan now for almost a week. finally trying to settle in...

I started my Japanese language course... and I finished Hiragana, I am staying with family host, she is super kind. I am absolutely loving it here. its a but cold but thanks to your earlier posts I managed to get enough warm clothes. so thank you :)

I have a few questions on... Banking, Phone & Health Insurance card

I am staying in Japan for 3 months. and they told me I can not get any of them... if I am staying in Japan for that short period of time !?
so what do short term travelers do !? I am sure their must be a way to obtain those 3 items without having to reside in Japan for over a year.. :(
they told me at Soft Bank I need 6 months or more... to open a bank account + health card it was a year or more :( ...

does anyone have any Idea !? if I can obtain any of them !? I sure, their is a language barrier and maybe I understood or they understood wrongly !?

I have already applied for an Alien Registration Card and will be getting it next week - that expires when I leave Japan. but the bank and telecommunication office told me I still cannot open an account nor get a phone !! -,-

ANY HELP WOULD MOST APPRECIATED !!!

thanks
Mei.

I'm not sure if I can be of assistance

Phone;
I suppose you can get so-called "prepaid phone". Softbank sells some prepaid cell-phones, I think. Please try to get the information about it. It seems that you can purchace one on-line as well.
http://onlineshop.mb.softbank.jp/ols/html/model/index_prepaid.html#sb821...

Bank;
It would be difficult to open a bank account as a short term traveler at those major banks. But I've heard that some of the local banks accept short term travellers. The only way to find it out would be calling every local bank near by.

Insurance;
I found a website like this:
http://www.gtcenter.co.jp/honichigaisen.html
It says "overseas travelers' personal accident insurance" "for foreigners visiting Japan". I don't know if this website is reliable enough though, it seems there is a way.
