First entry - what I know so far
So far I can pretty much recognize the kana, though I'm slow at recalling them and sometimes I can't quite remember certain kana. I figure that issue will dissolve as I learn words and start writing what I know.
... a i u e o ..................... a i u e o
...あ い う え お ......ア イ ウ エ オ
k か き く け こ ......カ キ ク ケ コ
g が ぎ ぐ げ ご ......ガ ギ グ ゲ ゴ
s さ し す せ そ ......サ シ ス セ ソ

m ま み む め も ......マ ミ ム メ モ
r . ら り る れ ろ ........ラ リ ル レ ロ
y や .. ゆ .. よ ........ヤ .. ユ .. ヨ
* わ .. ん .. を ........ワ .. ン .. ヲ
I only know one phrase, which was pretty much given to me by someone I met who is taking college courses to learn Japanese.
"かいものをしましょう"
"kaimono wo shimashou"
"let's go shopping"
I know that "kaimono" means shopping, and "shimashou" means let's go. So I can pretty much figure how it fits together.
I also know a few kanji.
火 fire
本 book
青 blue
I kinda know a few more, but not well enough to remember them. I can also read a few more than I can write by hand. And let's face it, when you can easily type something out on a keyboard, it makes it harder to say that you actually "know" the kanji.
I know a few words in romaji (which I can easily enough spell with hiragana).
inu = dog
koinu = puppy
neko = cat
koneko = kitten
mata ne = see you later
sayounara = good-bye
There is probably a bit more than I've listed, but I don't have time to write more now.
